[edit] For those who are new to IRC

  • IRC is (mainly) a Chatroom-based form of communication.
  • In order to join a chatroom, you'll need to connect to the Server (or network of servers) that hosts it, using an IRC Client.
  • Each chatroom or "channel" has a hash (#) at the start of its name. (An example of this would be #channel.)

CASSA hosts their own IRC network at irc.cassa.org.au, the main channel being #cassa. To connect, use this guide for ChatZilla

ChatZilla - Mozilla Firefox Plugin. If you're new to IRC, use this [1]
Mibbit - IRC Web Applet written in Ajax and JavaScript. [2]

mIRC - Probably the most used IRC Client on Windows. Nags at you after the trial. [3]
MegaIRC - Just as good as mIRC for basic use. No nag screens. [4]
XChat-WDK - XChat for Windows, minus the trial. [5]
HydraIRC - Nagging exit messages but still usable. [6]

[edit] Linux

XChat - mIRC for the GNU/Linux crowd. [7]
irssi - Terminal-based IRC, excellent for scripting. [8]
ircII - Extremely minimal Terminal-based IRC, late 80s style. [9]

[edit] Mac OS

Colloquy - Simpler to use than mIRC, but essentially mIRC for the Mac. [10]
MacIrssi - irssi with a Cocoa frontend. [11]
Linkinus - Excellent IRC client, but will cost you. [12]
